The NZF&VTG publishes the Safety Code of Practice on
behalf of the screen production industry. The document was written by an industry-wide committee and first published in 1992. The current document is the 1995 version.

The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires that all production companies and independent contractors have their own Health and Safety Policy which should include:
- Harassment and discrimination policy
- Smokefree policy
- Production company obligations
- Crew members’ obligations
- Accident reporting
- Emergency and first aid procedure
The NZF&VTG recommends that all independent contractors use the Code of Practice for Safety and Health as their individual health and safety policy.
It is common practice for production companies to have their own safety policy specific to their situation supplemented by the Safety Code of Practice.
