Background to The Blue Book

The Blue Book traces its origins back to the 1970's and reflects the common practice working conditions of screen production crew in New Zealand, along with the common practice of the international screen production industry. After extensive negotiations and consultation the 2004 edition was replaced by the 2017 edition in October 2017. Other common practice agreements include the White Book (writers) and the Individual Performers Agreement.

The Screen Industry Guild is the short name for The Screen Industry Guild of Aotearoa New Zealand Incorporated. It was previously known as the New Zealand Film and Video Technicians' Guild Incorporated or as the Techos' Guild.

The Screen Industry Guild is supported by its members and the New Zealand Film Commission.
